How the AI works. Plainly.

PhotoScout uses large language models to draft photographer itineraries. This page documents which model, what it can and cannot do, and what you should verify on the ground.

01 · MODEL

The model is named in every plan.

Used when the primary API is unavailable. Same system prompt, same validation pipeline.

The model used to generate your specific trip is noted in the trip footer.

02 · PIPELINE

From brief to itinerary, step by step.

  1. 01
    You write the brief.

Destination, dates, preferences, and any free-form notes. We pass that to the model with a system prompt that defines the itinerary shape, photographer constraints, and output format.

  2. 02
The model drafts spots, days, and coordinates.

Claude Haiku 4.5 returns a structured JSON itinerary. Coordinates are generated, not retrieved — verify them on a map before you drive at 04:00.

  3. 03
We compute the light, not the AI.

Sunrise, sunset, blue and golden hour are calculated deterministically with SunCalc from the exact coordinate and date. ±4 min, not ±40.

  4. 04
Weather comes from a live API.

If your dates fall inside the 7-day window, we pull OpenMeteo for each spot. Cloud cover and wind are real numbers, not AI hallucinations.

  5. 05
The output is validated, then shown.

A pipeline checks for structural completeness, PII, prompt-leakage, and basic plausibility. Roughly 6% of drafts are rejected and retried.

Every draft passes through validation.

Structural completeness, blocked-content scan, PII checks. ~6% are rejected and retried before you see them. Placeholder figure — replaced with the live rate when available.

04 · VERIFY

Before you travel.

  • Confirm GPS coordinates on Google Maps or OSM before you drive to a spot at 04:00.
  • Check NOTAM and your national drone authority before flying. AI drone notes are informational only.
  • Verify tidal access for coastal spots — Denmark, UK, and Faroes especially.
  • Park, nature-reserve, and private-land rules change. Check current restrictions before entry.
  • Cross-reference with PhotoHound or LocationScout for community-verified shooting spots.
