Saint-Sulpice at Sunset
This iconic view is captured from the observation deck of the Montparnasse Tower (Tour Montparnasse). To replicate this shot, visit just before sunset on a clear day when the west-facing church lights up gold against the darker city. A 200mm focal length is necessary to isolate the subject from this distance; a 70-200mm or similar telephoto lens is essential. Tripods are often restricted on the open-air roof terrace, so bring a beanbag for stability on the railings or shoot handheld with a fast shutter speed.
