Milky Way Over Huangshan
Capturing the night sky at Huangshan requires booking accommodation at one of the summit hotels, as cable cars do not run at night. Light pollution from hotel areas and path lighting can be intense, so find a vantage point like Bright Summit or near Lion Peak to face away from the strongest sources. An ultra-wide lens (14mm) is necessary to capture the scale of the sky; since f/4 is relatively slow for astrophotography, a higher ISO and 30-second exposure were needed here. Be prepared for freezing temperatures and strong winds on the exposed peaks during night shoots, particularly in winter.

The Dreaming Pen
This specific formation is best viewed from the platform near the Beihai Hotel in the North Sea scenic area of Huangshan. Winter mornings offer the most dramatic conditions, providing chances for rime ice and snow to separate the trees from the dark rock. A focal length of 70mm or longer is recommended to compress the scene and isolate the pillar from the busy valley background. Arrive before sunrise to claim a spot on the narrow railings, as this is a popular location for tour groups.

Winter Dawn at Huangshan
Winter (December to February) offers the unique chance to capture rime ice on the pines, though conditions are freezing. This perspective looks characteristic of the North Sea (Beihai) area, likely viewed from near Lion Peak or Refreshing Terrace; arrive at least 45 minutes before sunrise to secure a spot at the railings as it gets crowded. Crampons are essential for navigating the icy stone steps safely. A focal length around 45-50mm is ideal for balancing the detailed foreground pine usually found on rock pillars with the layered mountain backdrop.
